Celdara Medical, LLC announced today that it has received national recognition from the Small Business Administration (SBA) in the form of a Tibbetts Award. The award recognizes unique contributions to the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. John Williams, the Director of Innovation and Technology in the Office of Investment and Innovation at the SBA commented, “[Celdara Medical’s] outstanding work has contributed greatly to the success of the SBIR program.”
The SBIR program encourages businesses to engage in innovative research and development (R&D) projects that have exceptional potential for commercialization. At NIH, this means the development of therapies and diagnostics that improve human health. Administered through a competitive peer review process, SBIR enables small businesses to achieve their goals through grants and contracts for R&D. By accelerating entrepreneurial businesses and aligning them with the nation’s R&D efforts, high-tech innovation is stimulated and the United States gains economic benefits while meeting its research and development needs. SBIR was established in 1982 by legislation from New Hampshire Senator Warren Rudman.
Named after Roland Tibbetts, the universally acknowledged father of the SBIR program and a New Hampshire native son, the Tibbetts Award recognizes those individuals and firms that have made a substantial technological and socio-economic impact and exemplify the very best in SBIR achievement. Award winners are selected based on the economic impact of their technological innovation, and the extent to which that innovation served national R&D needs, encouraged diverse participation, and increased the commercialization of the nation’s investments in research.
